We have experienced remarkable growth since starting in summer of 2022. To sustain this growth, we are seeking more volunteers to take on various roles within our organization. Become a part of our team to not only learn new things and gain useful skills, but to support the Autistic Community of NYC!
There are other needs that may arise and more opportunities to volunteer, including one-time opportunities to assist with larger events. Volunteer Roles

Join us in creating inclusive and vibrant social events for Autistic adults in the NYC area! As an In-Person Event Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in supporting In-Person Event Facilitators to ensure the smooth execution of plans and the cultivation of a safe, welcoming space for all attendees.
Responsibilities:
Assist with setup/breakdown during events
Engage with attendees, fostering a comfortable atmosphere and ensuring adherence to group rules
Working with a group of Autistic adults of varying support needs
Ensure a calm and accessible environment for attendees
Skills:
Observant and attentive
Positive and friendly with attendees during events
Comfortable working with a diverse group of people
Experience: No prior experience is necessary, but previous work as a DSP/support professional or in-event support is a plus. We also prefer that volunteers have been involved in our non-profit (preferably as an attendee of our group) for at least 2 months.
Commitment: Schedule is very flexible. Each event can require about a 2-4 hour commitment. Preference to volunteers who can assist at least 1 event per month.
Location: Our events are scheduled In-Person around NYC. The event assistant will be able to choose the event that works the best with their schedule.

We are looking for multiple volunteer in-person event facilitators to lead events for Autistic adults in locations around NYC.
Responsibilities:
Planning and organizing events, including creating an event description and agenda, brainstorming activities for events, coordinating with staff to find a venue and acquiring event materials, and other event related tasks
Host and facilitate events, guiding participants and leading engaging activities
Ensuring a calm and accessible environment for attendees
Skills:
Able to assume a leadership role
Able to multitasking and be flexible to situation changes
Positive and friendly with attendees during events
Organized
Comfortable working with a diverse group of people
Event Categories: We are looking for hosts who can do one or multiple of the following below! -
Outings (Can go with members members to museums, theater shows, etc, typically in Manhattan Area)
Recurring social events (arts, crafting, picnicking, or other casual meetups) in Brooklyn or Manhattan
PAUSE events (Events for non-speaking and ID members) in Brooklyn
Events for BIPOC, Women or NB members
Any social events in the Bronx or Brooklyn
Experience: No previous experience required! Previous leadership experience (running social clubs or putting together events) is a plus. We also prefer that volunteers have been involved in our non-profit (preferably as a member of our group) for at least 2 months.
Commitment: Schedule is very flexible. Each event can require about a 2-4 hour commitment. The position requires facilitating on a consistent basis (monthly, every 2 months, etc), at a time/location of the facilitator’s choosing. We are asking that volunteers can commit to at least a year of volunteering.

Responsibilities:

Host and facilitate events, guiding participants, and leading engaging activities
Ensuring a calm and accessible environment for attendees
Skills:
Able to assume a leadership role
Able to multitasking and be flexible to situation changes
Positive and friendly with attendees during events
Organized
Comfortable working with a diverse group of people
Familiarity with Zoom is a plus but not required
Event Categories: We are looking for hosts who can do one or multiple of the following below! -
Virtual educational/social discussion events: covering topics such as autism basics for those newly diagnosed and the general public, autism in the workplace, and autism and relationships
Casual online social events
Experience: No previous experience required! Previous leadership experience (running social clubs or putting together events) is a plus, and experience on requested educational topics above is a plus. We also prefer that volunteers have been involved in our non-profit (preferably as an attendee of our group) for at least 2 months.
Commitment: Each event can require about a 1-2 hour commitment. The facilitator can decide the time/amount of online events they would like to host, with a minimum of one 1 hour event per month. We are asking that volunteers can commit to at least a year of volunteering.

We are seeking a Grant Writer to research, prepare grant proposals, applications, and track grant submissions alongside leadership.
Responsibilities:
Conduct ongoing research for relevant grant opportunities
Draft grant proposals and other supporting documents
Collaborate with leadership to gather information needed for grant applications
Correspond through email to discuss specific projects and deadlines
Attend occasional fundraising/development meetings, and one-on-one meetings with leadership
Skills:
Strong writing skills required
Basic computer literacy
Excellent organization skills
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and meet deadlines
Experience:This position requires access to a computer, internet, and basic writing skills, but no formal experience is necessary! Previous grant writing experience is desired but not required.
Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible
Location: Fully remote

The Accessibility Volunteer will help create inclusive and accessible resources and content for our members. They will also support efforts to make our website more accessible and user-friendly.
Responsibilities:
Create easy-read and plain language versions of resources for our website
Develop accessibility guides for event venues and locations, including images, clear directions, and other helpful details. It is preferred if the volunteer is able to visit the venues at least once to take pictures and create the guide (all in the Manhattan/Brooklyn area as of now).
Assist with accessibility compliance on our website
Attend one-on-one virtual meetings with leadership
Conduct research or writing tasks as needed by leadership
Skills:
Basic writing and research skills
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and meet deadlines
Familiarity with Squarespace is a plus but not required
Interest in the disability rights and neurodiversity movement is a plus
Experience: This position requires access to a computer, internet, and basic research and writing skills, but no formal experience is necessary!
Commitment: Minimum 2-4 hours a week for research and writing, and occasional virtual meetings with leadership.
Schedule: Flexible
